Brief Update and a Quote

This week is zooming along and, thankfully, so is my writing! I’ve written 3000 words so far this week on my WIP (look at me with the fancy lingo!), on track for my 5000 word per week goal. I sent out an e-mail about setting up my book signing at a local cafe. Blog posting is going according to schedule. We decided to do our Feline Dreamers chats on Facebook every month; we set up and promoted the next one on Facebook, and already have several folks interested in attending. My daily practices are trucking along smoothly. I’d say all is well in Starcat’s world.

Here’s some inspiration for your mid-week:

“The creative abilities do not just help you write books, paint pictures, play the piano, compose. The creative abilities are largely responsible for keeping you alive. Your cells are creative. You are alive because you wanted to create. Every act you perform is creative.” – Seth through Jane Roberts

Transitions and Waves

There were some transitions this week, as our unschooling/homeschooling groups move to a summer schedule. The weekly social meet-up is going to every other week for the season, with some added beach trips to enjoy. Our weekly co-op classes are done until fall (though I’m on the governing committee and will certainly have lots of work to do this summer to prepare). My calendar is filling up with summer events, especially on weekends. The kids and I are brainstorming about field trips, gatherings, and fun days we want to attend and/or host.  My performance schedule for June is rather full.

At the same time as all the outer-world plans are being brewed up, my inner world is vibrant and fertile. This week I dove back into working on the e-book, and it’s going well. I have lots of ideas for the remaining chapters. I’ve been making a loose outline as I go along, and now that I’m more than halfway done, I’m outlining a bit further ahead. My creativity is coming in waves, and I’m surfing them pretty well. So that feels good.

Our workshop, though we had a small group of attendees, went really well. We’ve already had an offer for hosting it in Portland (the first one was in Somersworth, NH). Also, our Dark Follies performance at the Local Sprouts cafe on Friday night was super! While we were there, I spoke to the event organizer about hosting my book signing there, and she was positive about it; we’re going to chat further.

I’m feeling like I’m in a good space. I had a bit too much “people time” this weekend, but I do have some “me time” coming up this week, so that’s good. I’m an introvert, so I do need my alone time to get recharged.

Here are the details. I’m copying the original goals in this time, just to get an overview and because I haven’t done that for a while. I’m not sure exactly when this round ends, either. If you make it all the way to the bottom I’ve included a picture as a bonus!  Heh heh…

Writing

Writing is my favorite creative focus. It’s what I do. It does help to have some sort of direction to it, though. Here are some writing goals for this round.

  • Write 5000 words per week on the Cultivating Self-Love e-book. Did 3651 words this week. Woo hoo!
  • Draft and edit supporting materials for our upcoming workshop (May 25th). If all goes well, develop the workshop into a multi-week online course, and draft the materials for that. The first part is done. I think we’ll be developing this more; we’re in the idea stages now.
  • Post to my Starcat’s Corner blog at least 3 times per week, and on this blog at least 2 times per week. Didn’t really get there this week, but I have notes and ideas for some new posts.
  • Write and edit at least 3 guest blog posts and have them posted. In progress. I’ve done two of the three.

Promotion

I’m promoting my new book, which in itself is a big learning curve. We’re also promoting our business, Feline Dreamers, which is an ongoing thing. This section looks like it might be too full, but remember that I have a partner for these. BlackLion rocks!

  • Continue to attend (or, when necessary, listen to the recordings) online Shift Your Biz classes. Complete all homework assignments prior to the following class. Done.
  • Learn and practice 5 new ways to ask people to purchase our Feline Dreamers wares. The asks should be clear, concise, and joyful. Use them to make sales. Working on it, though not in a very linear fashion.
  • Set up and offer a book signing and reading at a local bookstore. In progress (and it’s a cafe).
  • Continue to increase my reach with book promotion, using tools like Good Reads, Amazon Author Central, and guest blogging. Consider doing some paid sponsorships on compatible websites. In progress.
  • Have at least 5 people pay and attend our May Feline Dreamers workshop. When we create our online course, have at least 6 people sign-up, pay, and take the online course. In progress.
  • Host a Feline Dreamers chat on our Facebook page in May. Done, and it was not only fun but very successful! We’ll definitely do it again.
  • Finish and release our 2 new Feline Dreamers e-books by June 1st. Not going to make the deadline, but am steadily working on this.

Wellness and Practice

For me, wellness and practice go hand-in-hand. Here are some things I want to focus on as the weather gets better and better (a typical cat, I don’t like the cold and wet, so I’ve been hibernating a bit over the winter).

  • Continue doing my morning pages and affirmations in my journal. 4 pages each day. Yes.
  • Continue dancing for at least 20 minutes every day. 90-day dance challenge continues through mid-May. Completed the challenge and I’m still dancing. Working on some choreography for my class, too. Love it!
  • Practice drumming at least 3 times per week, plus the weekly troupe practice. Pretty close to on target.
  • Do yoga at least twice per week. I haven’t done any.
  • Go out for walks at least 3 times per week, for fitness and to attune more with the natural world. I haven’t done this either, due to lots of rain and being so busy.
  • Spend more time in ritual and sacred space. Attend the Women for All Seasons meetings more regularly. Definitely doing this, and it’s wonderful.

P.S. As promised above, a recent photo. It’s a picture of Dark Follies in case you’ve never seen us. We’re a modern vaudeville troupe! I’m the 2nd standing person from the left, with my djembe drum.

Living Life, Writing Later

This is my first update in a while, and I freely admit that I haven’t been doing much writing lately. I think it’s the weather, an increase in performance gigs, and just that occasional lull that shows up – the kind that allows me to fill my cup with new things to write about when I do get back to it. I received a compliment on my posts here being positive, and that’s something I’ve learned to embody. If I was writing this just a couple of years ago, I’d be beating myself up for what I didn’t do. But these days I focus on looking at what does work.

If I don’t “get stuff done” that was on my list, how would it help to be all self-critical about it? Life’s too short to generate stuff to feel bad about. And what have I been doing, instead? I certainly haven’t been lying around in bed feeling sorry for myself – not that there’s anything wrong with that, if I felt I needed it.

I guess the key, for me, is that these days I return, again and again, to mindfulness. What do I need? What do I want? How am I feeling? What am I learning? I check in with myself on a regular basis, to ensure that I’m listening to my intuition and fostering a deep connection with my source. Those are the places from whence my creativity emerges. And looking at life from that perspective, I’m doing really well.

Here are the details:

Writing

As noted above, I haven’t been doing much writing (aside from my daily journal practice). I’ve been jotting down some notes, ideas for the e-book as well as our upcoming workshop, but that’s about it. Things are percolating in the background.

Promotion

  • We’re all ready for our Facebook chat on our Feline Dreamers page, beginning about two hours from when I’m writing this. Woo hoo!
  • We set up a GoFundMe page for our upcoming Rethinking Everything adventure. Click here to find out what the heck I’m talking about. We also sent in our descriptions for the sessions we’ll be doing at the conference.
  • Ongoing promotion (book and website) has been going well. I’ve had lots of folks asking me about my book, and showing interest. I finished my GoodReads giveaway, too.
  • I haven’t done any more on setting up the book signing, yet. This week I’ll make that detailed list and start checking things off.

Wellness and Practice

My journaling, dancing, and drumming practices are all going very well. They keep me grounded and centered in my spiritual creativity, even when I’m busy doing other things. I’ve been enjoying sacred space pretty regularly, too.

Have a great week and enjoy your process, however it goes!

Truckin’ Along

Hi there! I’m having a good week and truckin’ right along, working on my goals. I didn’t post on Sunday as I was in the midst of another busy weekend. That will be the case this weekend, too, as I’ll be away at a gig with the Dark Follies troupe. In the meantime, some much-needed rain is headed our way, perfect weather for writing! I think things are well in hand as far as my focus goes, and I’ll check back in again next Wednesday. Enjoy your projects, folks!

Writing

  • After letting my ideas percolate for a while, I dove back into work on the Cultivating Self-Love e-book. I’ve written 2065 words in the past couple of days.
  • I’m also getting back into the flow of blogging.
  • I wrote, edited, and sent an essay on traditions in eclectic Paganism (yeah, I know, kind of a paradox) to my publisher – it will be included in a compilation they’re putting together for publication.
  • I’ve secured another guest blog slot on one of my favorite blogs, Kind Over Matter. It’ll be published in August. Woo hoo!

Promotion

  • I’ve been doing more promotion via Facebook and Twitter, for my book as well as our Feline Dreamers wares.
  • I still need to work on setting up my book signing and reading. I think I need to write out a plan with all the action steps – it’s feeling a bit overwhelming at the moment. More on this soon.
  • We set up a date and time for our Feline Dreamers live Facebook chat. It will be on Sunday May 19th at 8pm.

Wellness and Practice

  • Daily practice is going well. Journal writing and dancing are the constants. I’ve also been pretty consistent with my drumming practice lately.
  •  I haven’t done any yoga, but I have been out walking, some, in the spring weather. I had some back issues last week, but they’re much better now. For some reason, I’ve been eating more sugar than normal, but it hasn’t seemed to affect me adversely. Today I’m back to my usual no-sugar fare.
  • I was part of a lovely Beltane ritual over the weekend, and spent the whole day at the ocean. It was refreshing and energizing, and I think it helped me get back into the mindset for writing the Cultivating Self-Love e-book, too.

Putting Plans in Motion

Wow, Wednesday is almost done. I’ve just got time for a quick check-in before BlackLion and I watch a bit of Downton Abbey together (no spoilers, please, we’re only on season 2!).

I haven’t done any more work on the e-book since my last update, but thoughts and ideas are rolling around in my mind. I find it’s good to let the imagination have its way with my projects sometimes.

I finished and sent off my first guest post for my publisher’s blog. You can see it here if you like. I’m pleased with it.

Today I’ve been formulating some plans for my book signing and reading. With the input of some fellow authors (on the Facebook authors’ page that my publisher kindly put together), I’m coming to the conclusion that doing my signing in a cafe or other non-bookstore location will actually work best. BlackLion and I have been brainstorming and taking notes. We have the perfect little local organic cafe in mind…  More to come as it unfolds.

BlackLion and I have set aside chunks of time tomorrow and Saturday to delve into some of our shared projects. I’m looking forward to that, and to diving back into the e-book.

Beltane Blessings to those who celebrate it, and Happy May Day to all!
